What is the Mexican naming pattern? ›

Mexican names follow Spanish naming customs: [personal name(s)] [father's paternal family name] [mother's paternal family name]. For example, Hector GONZÁLEZ LÓPEZ (male) and Camila GUTIERREZ GARCIA (female). The 'personal name' (or 'given name') is chosen at birth as the individual's personal identifier.

Double names are very important in Hispanic cultures. Mexican most common double names start with Juan, José, Luís and Miguel, the favorite combinations being Miguel Ángel, Juan Pablo, Juan Manuel, José Luís and José Miguel.

Given Names. In Mexico, many given names are usually derived from biblical names, such as José (Joseph, husband of Mary) or from the names of a saint, such as Bartolomé (Bartholomew). Some Spanish people used compound given names (nombres compuestos) such as María del Socorro.

Basic structure. Currently in Spain, people bear a single or composite given name (nombre in Spanish) and two surnames (apellidos in Spanish). A composite given name is composed of two (or more) single names; for example, Juan Pablo is considered not to be a first and a second forename, but a single composite forename.

In Spanish-speaking Latin America, names are comprised of three parts: Given name (either a single name like Alejandra or, more commonly, a compound name with two or more names like Francisco Enrique) Paternal surname (can be compound, but this is less common) Maternal surname (can be compound, but this is less common)

In Puerto Rico, as in many Hispanic cultures, the first surname comes from the father's first surname, and the second one comes from the mother's first surname. In my case, my dad's surnames are “Dávila Estrada” and my mom's surnames are “Montero Caro” so mine are “Dávila Montero”.

Spanish people has only one name and two surnames. We do not have “middle” name like english countries. The first surname use to be the father's first one and the last surname comes from the first of the mother.

We carry both our father's and our mother's last name. So with our two given names (name and middle name) we have four words in our full names.
