Save some money and try out a few (or more) DIY spa day ideas! You deserve it.

Set the Mood

One of the most fundamental elements of a successful spa day is the mood set to help you relax in the best way possible. For a DIY spa day, that means finding the best place in your home and making it as nice as possible.

When I know that I am going to have the opportunity to have a relaxing night in, I try to plan ahead. That means running to the store so that I have everything that I will need and making time to clean the entire bathroom.

I know you don’t want to do it, but a clean environment will help you relax in the best way possible.

Next, it is all about planning out exactly what you want to do for a fun spa night, that means deciding on what luxurious treatments that you want- this is the fun part! Whether you want a homemade facial, pedicure, or both, you want to plan a little bit ahead so that you can make sure that you have everything.

Special Extras that make the best DIY Spa Night

You do not have to spend a fortune to have an awesome at hone spa day! These DIY spa options can be done with ingredients you already have in your house!

Exfoliate with a Homemade Sugar Scrub and Moisturize with Coconut Oil

A DIY spa day can be done in so many ways, one of the best ways is to exfoliate with a homemade sugar scrub, followed by using coconut oil to help your skin feel silky smooth.

This quick and simple recipe is the perfect way to spend a Saturday night in or to prepare your body for a weekend away.

Homemade Sugar Scrub Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup of sugar (the courser the better- look for cane sugar!)
  • 1 cup of melted coconut oil
  • 1 tablespoon of salt (helps preserve the ingredients)
  • 15-20 drops of any essential oils that you prefer- I like eucalyptus or a citrus
  • Glass Jar with a Lid

Directions:

Combine the ingredients in a bowl until everything is well blended. Place in a glass jar with a lid. Once you are in the shower, rub on damp skin in a circular motion to remove the dead skin. Rinse off in the shower.

Once you dry off, take some coconut oil and apply over your body. Any dry skin will instantly absorb and become smoother than you could ever imagine.

Egg Mask

An egg mask is super easy and very cost effective! An egg white, lemon, and honey mask will help reduce blackheads and cost you less than a dollar.

  • 1 egg white
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon honey

Simply whisk the 3 ingredients together (it will look white and frothy) then apply to those stubborn areas where removing black heads feels impossible. Leave on for 15 minutes then rinse off. Trust me, you and your skin will not regret it.

Cucumber Eyes

Yes, it can feel silly to place a thin slice of cucumbers over your eyes, but don’t knock it until you try it! There is a reason that so many spas like to offer cucumber slices over your eyes while you are resting. Cucumbers have anti-inflammatory properties in them.

When you place them on your eyes, they help a lot of the swelling go down and can reduce the bags under your eyes significantly. Why not add this luxury to your next spa day? For less than a dollar, you can create a 5 star experience with this trick.

Grab this awesome vegetable in the produce aisle before your next spa day- you won’t regret it!

Epsom Salt Bath

There is nothing I love more than an epsom salt bath. It helps your body absorb all the magnesium that you could ever need so that you can relax. Not only does it help relieve muscles from soreness and muscle knots, but it helps your brain calm down as well.

Wash all of that anxiety away with some warm water and a cup of epsom salt.

If you really want to go all out, try to find a bath bomb with epsom salt infused! They are the best and can include so many other amazing things like essential oils to help you relax even more.

DIY Spa Water- cucumber/lemon infused water

Whenever I want to do a DIY spa night right, I will take the rest of the cucumber from my eye mask (see above) and infuse it with a pitcher of water. Add in some lemon slices and you will hydrate in style.

Water infused with cucumber and lemon not only tastes amazing, but it is packed full of other benefits like boosting your immune system, balances your pH levels, and even helps with weight loss.If cucumber is not your thing, try one of these 10 detox water recipes!

Teeth Whitening

I love how put together I look when I make the time to whiten my teeth. I know it sounds funny, but the simple act of putting on whitening strips can help you look your best. While that’s not 100% the purpose of a spa day, there is some truth to the theory ‘the better you look, the better you feel’.

Before your next at-home spa day, grab some teeth whiteners and add that into your routine- you won’t regret it!

Dry Brush

A dry brush routine is an excellent addition to your own personal spa day. Not only is it a fairly cheap procedure, but it can help with blood circulation. When done right, a dry brush routine can exfoliate the skin and help the blood move in a way that will drain extra toxins stored in your body.

When you use a dry brush, your skin will look and feel better! Just make sure you add in some extra water to help cleanse your body of all those extra toxins that the brush released.

Pedicure/Manicure

What’s a spa day without a little nail touchup- am I right?

Grab a manicure kit and take some extra time to give yourself a manicure! Even if you don’t like nail polish on your nails, that’s okay.

You can use this opportunity to touch up your cuticles, file your nails down and add some extra thick lotion to moisturize your hands. Of course, if you do prefer nail polish, I love this cute kit on Amazon.

For your feet, I cannot recommend an investment of the pedi-egg enough. After a rough winter, it is pretty common for people to have rough, scaly feet that need a little extra TLC to get them silky soft again.

In addition to a nail trim and some cuticle work, rub this around your feet to work off some of that tough skin. I know it may sound gross, but it is the height of luxury!

Hair Mask

A hair mask is the same idea as a face mask, only it is for your hair. Grab one at the store and apply it to dry, clean hair for up to an hour. This lets your hair absorb all of those hair mask goodies and come out looking its best.

My favorite part is that a hair mask can be created for any type of hair. Whether you are extra oily, dryer than an uncooked spaghetti noodle, or somewhere in between, you can find a hair mask for you.

I love to take an aloe leaf and blend the gel inside of it- this always gives my hair extra life and can keep it looking cleaner for longer.

Gua Sha Facial

My friend showed me this facial and I am obsessed! The concept behind this facial is to use a special tool to massage around your skin. The tool is specifically designed to rub out any facial muscle knots and stimulate blood flow.

You know those treatments that leave you randomly staring at yourself in the mirror? This is one of them! And you can do it yourself at home- all you need is the special tool and some time to try out this ultra luxurious DIY spa treatment.

Fix your Eyebrows

Am I the only one who has a hard time making my eyebrows a priority? No? Between everything going on in my life, somehow my eyebrows fall to the side. This is why I add eyebrow maintenance to my DIY spa days.

Eyebrow maintenance has never been so easy. In fact, there has never been so many options to help tidy up your eyebrows. From at home waxing kids to light up tweezers, the ability for you to ‘fix your face’ has never been easier.

DIY Spa Day Extra Credit

When it comes to planning a DIY spa day, there are always ways to help you feel even more luxurious. Whenever I get to treat myself to a day of luxury, I like to go all out. While these items are not essential, they can help take your spa day to the next level.

Candles

There is something about a lit candle that makes your self-care even more calming. Try out the scent of citrus or something with cedar in it to help with your spa environment.

Even better? Light a woodwick candle to really set the mood. The small crackling sound can make a world of difference!

Soft Robe

Is there anything better at the spa then when they hand you that soft, fluffy white robe? I didn’t think so. So why miss out on that at home? Grab a new robe to help you relax and really get into that ‘spa state of mind’.

Fancy Drink

Earlier in the article, we mentioned how amazing a lemon and cucumber infused water can taste during your spa day- and its true! But sometimes, we need something a little… fancier.

Luckily, you don’t have to go to extreme lengths for you to get a fancy drink, you can just make one at home!

Really, the options are endless. From a sparkling kombucha to a homemade moscow mule, you can create almost anything to help your relaxation hit optimum levels.

Special Snacks

If you really want to plan this spa day to be the best one ever, you cannot forget the snacks. Even on a budget, you can get some healthy, yummy snacks to help you enjoy every luxurious spa treatment on your list.

In Summary

Having your own spa day can be one of the best memories that you can plan for. Luckily, there are plenty of options to help you plan for the ultimate day of self care.

From simple face masks to manicures, the options are endless to help you feel your best and have the most luxurious DIY spa day ever.
